aikido stickers
Animals performing various techniques in the martial arts form aikido.
Aikido is a japanese martial art from the 1920s, created by Morihei Ushiba. The martial art is based on his philosophy and religious beliefs, tired of the violence of war.
An aikidoka's goal is to defend themselves while protecting the aggressor from injury.
The animals' poses are based on pictures of the Ushiba family performing different aikido techniques depicted in the book: Nihon no Budo Book 9: Aikido (1983).
I've grown up around aikido, as my mum practices and teaches it. The skirt-trousers, hakama, and dance like movement have always fascinated me.
