Mobirise

kontext, the magazine

Kontext creates issues exploring different subcultures and its clothing. Fashion that seems normal in their context—like Gyarus in Tokyo's Harajuku or goths crowds in graveyards—but reads as subversive outside their own scenes. This issue focuses on dancer's clothes. Within class, strappy bikinis, hotpants and make-do t-shirt boleros fits in. It's normal, expected. Take it out of its context, suddenly it's subversive.

The magazine plays with photographing its muses in unexpected environments, outside their context. Kontext: Issue 1 features a dancer in country greenhouse and its surroundings.

Dance fashion changes quickly, taking inspiration all the way from classmates to international influences.

Often, the clothes derive from dance it self, to fulfil a purpose.

A folded up pantleg to see movements of the leg. Streamlined and tight clothing in Ballet to see the body and techniques. While contemporary might need the flow of loose fabrics add expressiveness to the choreography.
